Galaxy Z Flip8 is Samsung’s slimmer clamshell foldable for 2026, unveiled at Galaxy Unpacked in London. Samsung kept the familiar Flip silhouette while pushing more apps, insights, and Gemini Intelligence onto the cover FlexWindow.
Therefore, this is less of a full redesign and more of a cover-screen software upgrade with a thinner chassis. The cameras and battery capacity stay on last year’s rails.
A pocketable Galaxy Z Flip8 shape
Samsung lists folded dimensions of 85.7 x 75.4 x 13.1 mm and unfolded dimensions of 166.9 x 75.4 x 6.1 mm. Weight lands at 180 g. In short, Flip8 is slightly lighter and slimmer than Flip7 while staying pocketable when closed.
The main panel is a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display at 1,080 x 2,520 with adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz and Vision Booster. Meanwhile, the FlexWindow cover is a 4.1-inch AMOLED panel at 948 x 1,048 with 60/120 Hz refresh. Those display sizes match Flip7, so the software on the cover is the bigger story.
FlexWindow apps, Now Brief, and Gemini AI
Samsung says the new FlexWindow brings apps, insights, and actions to the cover without opening the phone. In addition, Now Brief can surface next steps and timely insights as glanceable cover widgets. Gemini Intelligence automation is easier to reach from the FlexWindow through side-key activation or natural voice requests.
Cameras and performance: steady hardware, smarter software
The camera stack is unchanged: a 50 MP f/1.8 wide camera, 12 MP ultrawide, and 10 MP selfie camera. You can still shoot selfies with the main camera on the FlexWindow. Camcorder Grip mode still supports horizontal capture while holding the bottom half of the phone. Moreover, video up to 4K60 gains a horizontal lock option that steadies the horizon, similar to action-camera lock modes.
Inside, Flip8 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform for Galaxy. However, battery capacity remains a 4,300 mAh dual-battery design with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. As a result, day-to-day gains should lean more on efficiency and software than on a larger cell.
Price, colors, and availability
U.S. pre-orders opened July 22, 2026, with general availability on August 7. Galaxy Z Flip8 starts at $1,199.99. Shared colors include Graphite and Cream. Flip8-exclusive options add Pink plus online-only Mint. For example, storage options include 256 GB and 512 GB configurations depending on retailer stock.
Samsung lists preorders through Samsung.com and major retailers including Best Buy and Amazon. Overall, Flip8 asks $100 more than last year’s entry price for a thinner shell and a smarter cover.
